Local irrigators are anticipating an offer to transition the St George distribution scheme to local management after negotiating with government and signing a transfer agreement in December 2017.
The offer has been negotiated on behalf of irrigators by a transition board. The board members include CPA qualified agricultural business manager, Luke Stower (Chair), irrigators, Scott Armstrong, David Moon and Glen Price and former managing partner of Minter Ellison, Ross Landsberg.
The Board has proposed that a not-for-profit company, known as Mallawa Irrigation Ltd be established. Owned by customers of the scheme, it is proposed the new entity be a company limited by guarantee and its constitution will provide for different classes of membership and a corporate structure that provides protection from foreign takeover.
